The highly evolved Bill Nye – popularly known as ‘The Science Guy’ – will be visiting Australia in February 2015 for his first Australian tour.
An evening with Bill Nye will be in pursuit of a mission – to foster a scientifically literate society, making science entertaining and accessible.Bill Nye tackles numerous issues of scientific debate, though is perhaps most notable for locking horns with creationists and global warming deniers. In many of his disputes with political leaders and climate realists, Nye proclaims the paramount importance of battling the causes of climate change now, before the effects are too catastrophic – “We need you to change things, not deny what’s happening”, says Nye.
Nye is also an advocate for evolution and is prominent for his many appearances in media, his work in science, engineering, education, and as an inventor. His trademark bow-tied demeanour has seen him earn 18 Emmy nominations, with seven Emmy wins for writing, performing and producing. He has received an Honorary Doctorate Award from the Johns Hopkins University, and an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Willamette University, among other awards.
Bill Nye has garnered a worldwide following for his take on creationism and sciences, accumulating more than six million views (since August, 2012) in a YouTube video titled ‘Creationism Is Not Appropriate for Children’.
Think Inc. – the team who brought to Australia Dr Michio Kaku in June 2014, and is bringing James Randi to Australia in December 2014 – is hosting Bill Nye The Science Guy to promote the sciences, and prompt thought in evolution among young adults. As Bill Nye says: “We need scientifically literate voters and taxpayers for the future. We need … engineers that can build stuff, solve problems”.
